This study determined the richness of the avifauna in the Umuarama campus, Federal University of Uberlândia (Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais). From May 1998 to May 1999, field researches were accomplished, weekly, in the limits of the campus and surroundings. The observations were done in the two schedules (7:00-9:00 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m.) with aid of binoculars. The registers were visuals and/or sonorous. We found 91 species, included in 11 orders, 31 families and 83 genera. The most representative families were Emberizidae (19 species, 19.78%), Tyrannidae (13, 14.28%) and Trochilidae (13, 14.28%). Ara ararauna and Sicalis flaveola were the only species threatened of extinction registered. Both are included in the vulnerable category for the State of Minas Gerais. A total of 51 new species was added to the previous rising, accomplished in 1988. The results show that the Umuarama campus is an important place to the local avifauna.
