The somatic tissue cryopreservation of collared peccaries is an interesting alternative as conservationstrategies for maintaining the ecosystem and the optimization of breeding management. Therefore, the aim of thestudy was to evaluate different cryoprotectants in the vitrification solid surface of somatic tissue in collaredpeccaries. Thun, the tissue fragments were vitrified by solid surface in minimum essential medium modified byDulbecco supplemented with 10% bovine fetal serum (FCS) and different intracellular cryoprotectants [3.0 Mdimethylsulfoxide with 0.25 M sucrose (DMSO-SUC) and 3.0 M ethylene glycol with 0.25 M sucrose (EG-SUC)].Thus, the combination of 3.0 M EG, 0.25 M sucrose and 10% FCS was adequate to maintain normal tissuecharacteristics compared with non-vitrified fragments and vitrified with DMSO-SAC, especially for the volumetricratio of epidermis (34.5 vs. 36.6 vs. 32.1) and dermis (61.2 vs. 58.7 vs. 62.5), respectively.(AU)
