Official brazilian list of threatened bats species

Aguiar, Ludmilla

In mid-1997, the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources IBAMA updated the Official Brazilian List of Threatened Species, innerable cluding nine species of Chiroptera. This resolution was the major outcome of the Workshop for the Status and Conservation of Brazilian Bats, which was held at Santa Teresa (Espirito Santo) in November of 1995 (see Aguiar & Taddei 1995). During the workshop at Santa Teresa, participants felt the need to include these species in the Brazilian list of species threatened with extinction that, despite being published in 1989, still did not consider any in representative of the order Chiroptera. As such, the participants sent the results to IBAMA and this agency clearly accepted the proposal of the workshop.
